The World Bank approved US$125.16 million in financing, including a US$17.16 million grant from the Pandemic Fund, to support Tunisia’s Health System Strengthening Project. This nationwide initiative aims to improve access to resilient, quality, and responsive health services by enhancing pandemic preparedness, emergency care, and modernizing primary healthcare. Aligned with Tunisia’s National Health Policy, the project emphasized equitable access to care and prioritizes preventing and protective health services, particularly for vulnerable populations. It will strengthen governance and digital infrastructure, including the implementation of electronic medical records and telemedicine.
One key feature is the development of One Health surveillance systems that integrate human, animal, and environmental health to boost early disease detection and response. The project also supports frontline health workers through advanced training in disease surveillance and emergency care, and will upgrade hospital infrastructure, ambulance fleets, and triage systems to ensure efficient, integrated service delivery across the country.
